Crazy for Chocolate… here is why?

Raw cacao promotes the release of the neurotransmitter seratonin, our feel good hormone. This neurotransmitter also acts as an anti-depressant that can help reduce symptoms of PMS.

So if have the urge to gorge on choco over Valentines… fret not!

As a Superfood, raw cacao is a rich source of antioxidants and many beneficial trace nutrients. It contains flavonoids that promote cardiovascular health and protect against toxins. It’s also a source of manganese, magnesium and sulfur, which build strong nails, hair and promote beautiful skin. Raw cacao does not raise blood cholesterol levels.

Do you get these benefits from most chocolate on the store shelf?  

No, many store bought chocolates are a bombshell of saturated fats and unwanted sugars due to low levels of beneficial cacao.

It’s best to make your own. Here is a recipe that you can master with no cooking, no fussing and no lengthy preparation time. Enjoy!

Cacao and Almond Bliss Balls

Ingredients:

  • 200g raw almonds (or almond butter)
  • 200g dates (pitted)
  • 30-40g cacao powder (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon agave (or raw honey)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons of tahini (optional)
  • 1 cup of desiccated coconut for coating

Method: Place all the ingredients except the coconut in a blender and wiz until smooth. With your hands roll the mixture into small balls. Then roll the balls into the desiccated coconut to coat them. Refrigerate until the balls are hard.

If you are allergic to nuts – use sunflower seeds nut butter.
